CARRIAGE RIDES

The team leader takes you through our beautiful neighbourhood at the heart of Mecklenburg’s Switzerland with a horse or hunting carriage. Equally charming are charabanc trips to the Müritz national park.

In the summer, with horse carriages with up to six people or charabancs with up to twelve, the trail leads through the shady forests of the nature reserve to many places of interest. And in winter too you can enjoy a carriage ride in the sunset in the Müritz national park with a hot Glühwein.

THE THÜNEN MUSEUM IN TELLOW

The “Naturalist and local historian” school association, under the direction of their teacher Rolf-Peter Bartz, began to construct the Thünen Museum in 1969.
The building and annexes were saved from decline and restored as a museum. In March 1972, the museum was transferred into public hands. The museum grew constantly in the following years.

Museum visits: daily from 9 am – 7 pm

DARGUN MONASTERY AND CASTLE COMPLEX

Built by Cistercian monks, the complex has experienced an eventful history in the course of the centuries. After the Reformation, the castle was converted into a monastery.

At the end of the Second World War, castle and monastery church fell victim to a fire. Committed townsfolk teamed up in 1990 and have acted to save and restore the complex.

Through donations and subsidies, a large part has been restored and partially rebuilt. Concerts, services and other events take place today in the castle courtyard and the church. The beautiful surroundings, the little town of Dargun and the monastery and castle complex are always worth a journey.

STAVENHAGEN THE TOWN OF REUTER

The small town of Stavenhagen, at the heart of Mecklenburg’s Switzerland, owes its great popularity to Fritz Reuter (1810-1874), the greatest poet in the Low German language. The Fritz Reuter Literature Museum, founded in 1960, vividly documents the life and work of the poet. After this, the historic old town invites some window-shopping and reinforcement with coffee and cakes.
The Reuter oak
Before Fritz Reuter moved to Eisenach in June 1863, he wished to leave a sign of his gratitude to his deceased parents.
He planted an oak on the road to Neubrandenburg on Alt-Bauhoffelde. He is supposed already to have planted such a tree in 1849, which however died. When Fritz Reuter died in 1874, Mayor von Bülow journeyed with a wreath of branches from the Reuter oak to the poet’s funeral in Eisenach.
